How to Get to Iquitos Peru

How to Get to Iquitos Peru

Iquitos is the 6th largest city in Peru and a principal departure point for jungle treks or river cruises in this part of the Amazon Basin. Given the difficult geography, surrounded by rivers and mountains, there are no roads to Iquitos and the city is reachable only by air or water.

Air

Flying to the Iquitos airport is certainly the easiest and most comfortable method, and for travelers with limited time, it is also the most efficient way to travel. Several flights depart daily from Lima on Lan, Lan Peru, Star Peru, TAM, and a few other airlines. Travelers in a different city in Peru first have to fly to Lima and then to Iquitos; a couple flights depart daily from Pucallpa or Tarapoto. From the airport, mototaxis into town can be negotiated for around S./8.

Water

Travelers with more time on their hands or who wish to see more of the country have the luxury of taking longer routes by land and water. There are various domestic and international ports that serve Iquitos. Travel is either by slow-moving cargo ships or speedboats, which are more expensive but cut down travel times significantly.

Pucallpa is the second largest city in the Amazon and a principal port for boats departing to Iquitos. It is also a destination for ecotourism and mystical tourism. Pucallpa is accessible by air or by road, and from Lima, the bus ride is 18 hours or more. From Cusco and other destinations in southern Peru, travelers can catch buses to Ayacucho to Huancayo to Iquitos.

Transport to Iquitos is via the Ucayal? River. The 560 miles (900 km) journey through the Amazon rainforest takes 4 to 6 days on a regular cargo ship, which stops in river communities along the way, including Puerto Requena and Puerto Contamana. It is also possible to catch a smaller speedboat, which can make the trip in 2 to 3 days.

Yurimaguas is further north than Pucallpa, about 3 hours by bus from Tarapoto, which has an airport. Travel to Iquitos is via the Huallaga River on cargo ships that leave daily and make the trip in 2 or 3 days. Boats pass through Lagunas and Pacaya-Samiria National Parks.

From outside Peru, the tri-border port unites Peru, Colombia, and Brazil on the Amazon River. The port is known as Santa Rosa in Peru, Tabatinga in Colombia, and Leticia in Colombia. Cargo ships to and from Iquitos take about 3 days, whereas speedboats can cover the distance in 9 to 10 hours. From Ecuador, cargo ships travel on the Napo River to and from the border city of Cabo Pantoja.…

How to Stop Dog Barking – This Gets Amazing Results

How to Stop Dog Barking – This Gets Amazing Results

How to stop dog barking is one of the frustrations of a lot of dog owners. Barking is a natural dog behavior, it his how they communicate but for irate neighbors this is not a sufficient explanation.

Of all the ways dogs communicate, excessive barking is the most annoying. To effectively stop dog barking you must know why a dog barks in the first place.

Of course you can’t expect your dog to become mute, what is meant here is putting a stop to that excessive barking the neighbors and passersby are complaining about. The next section covers the reasons that lead dogs to bark excessively and how to stop dog barking.

1) They bark to alert or warn their owners that someone is at the door or when strangers pass outside the gates any owner can understand and appreciate this. However the barking becomes annoying when there are quite a number of people passing because the dog will continue doing such.

The reason behind that is the poor creature thinks he has successfully deterred the strangers from entering the property. The dog does not realize that in the first place, those people did not really want to come in.

If this is the case you can move the dog to another spot where he cannot see many people coming and going.

2) Dogs bark to get your attention. They bark excessively because you unwittingly train them to do so when every time they get your attention you do something for them such as pet them, play with them, let them out, let them back in, give them a treat, or tell them “Shut up!”.

Stop dog barking by going to him every time he barks then gently tell him “Stop” or “No” then spritz him with water. If you do that long enough your dog will stop excessively barking to get your attention.

3) Dogs who are left alone for most periods or those that have not been properly socialized are bored and/or lonely dogs. More likely they became problem barkers because they want to hear themselves or because they are making a habit out of it.

The solution here is not to leave your dog unsupervised for long periods of time and to take him out regularly for walks, take him jogging with you, play with him, or stimulate his mind with other activities.

4) Just like a little kid on his first day in school, a dog feels separation anxiety too when it gets separated from the pack which in this case is you and/or your family. They bark to call you back to him or because they are frustrated that no one is around.

To stop dog barking, make sure that before you leave the house, all the things that he needs are taken care of. Before leaving be sure that he has a place he can comfortably sleep together with his chewing toys and also don’t forget to leave fresh water for him to drink.

If after coming back you found your dog barking excessively, ignore him for awhile to prevent him from thinking his barking was the reason you came back. Only turn your attention to him after he has settled down.

With whatever you do to stop dog barking, always remember to be as humane as possible. Don’t apply excessive force and don’t hurt your dog because this will agitate him. This will not have solved the problem but rather aggravates it because dogs will also bark excessively when they are agitated.…

Important Holiday Driving Travel Tips

Important Holiday Driving Travel Tips

Wondering how to make this year’s car trip to Grandma’s a safe and happy experience? A little extra time and planning can save you hassle, money, even your life.

Rest up. Before you even get in your car, try to get a good night’s sleep, don’t stay up all night packing or baking those extra cookies. Driver fatigue is a major cause of car wrecks, and filling up on coffee or energy drinks won’t take the place of being well rested. In fact, once the caffeine wears off, you’re at risk for a bigger crash, in more ways than one! Try not to leave right after a heavy meal, when most of us get sleepy, especially if you’ve been drinking alcoholic beverages.

Plan well. There are many resources out there that will provide you with information on the best routes to take, the best times to avoid commuter traffic, and weather related road conditions. Check out the Federal Highway Administration’s web site for links to information on weather and road conditions and the availability of travel web sites and 511 telephone services. If at all possible, try to drive during daylight hours when visibility is at its best.

Check up. Make sure your vehicle is safe. Check the oil, tire pressure, coolant, etc. a day or two before you travel. Don’t leave it until the last minute when you might forget something important. Make sure you have a good spare tire, jumper cables and an emergency kit. If you’re traveling in cold weather, a blanket or two in the trunk could be a lifesaver.

Bring activities. If traveling with kids (or adults who act like them) bring along plenty of activities to occupy their time. You might want to stick with quieter games and books; do you really want to listen to that Game Boy chirping at you for 8 hours? But remember, this is a great time for family interaction, don’t just set them up with a movie and ignore them the whole trip.

Wear your seat belt. (Do we really have to go over this?)

Take breaks!! It’s recommended you take a break every 2 hours or 100 miles. This is particularly essential when traveling with kids or pets. It’s also a good time to switch off drivers to further avoid fatigue. Stop for food instead of grabbing drive-through and eating on the go. Eating while driving is just as big a distraction as phoning, texting, or arguing with the back seat.

Don’t text. Let a passenger answer your cell phone or wait to return calls and texts when you are at a rest stop. Many states have outlawed phoning and texting while driving, so it isn’t just unsafe, it’s illegal. Drivers who use cell phones are four times as likely to get into crashes serious enough to injure themselves.

It doesn’t take much to prepare for a holiday driving trip. If you follow these easy steps you’ll find your drive will go much smoother. Imagine arriving at Grandma’s with a smile on your face because of a smooth, safe, fun experience instead of a frown of frustration, or worse, not arriving at all.…
