Wildly recognized as naturalist’s paradise, Annapurna is a series of peaks in Nepal Himalayas. This mountain is situated in the east of great gorge cut through the Himalaya by the river Kali Gandaki. The beautiful mountain has vast snow capped glaciers on its western and northwestern slopes which drain into this gorge.

The entire Annapurna massif and its surrounding area (7,629 sq km) comes under Annapurna Conservation Project Area which was established by King Mahendra Trust for Nature Conservation in the year 1986. This Annapurna Conservation Project Area houses six world famous peaks of which Annapurna I has the highest height of 8091 m.

This region also boasts three major trekking routes of Nepal namely the Jomson Trek to Jomsom and Muktinath (increasingly disturbed by a road-building project); the Annapurna Sanctuary route to Annapurna base camp; and the Annapurna Circuit.

All thanks to these thrilling trekking routes, ever year nearly 64% of trekkers from all across the globe throng Annapurna region in Nepal. Pokhara town, fondly known as ‘the dreamland or fairy land’ serves as starting point for trekking to these world famous treks. This town is also good starting point for short treks like Ghorepani or Ghandruk.

These trekking routes of Annapurna region have an extra edge over other treks in Nepal as they provide plentiful of diverse scenery including high mountains and lowland villages. Also trekking in this region is an experience of lifetime as trekkers get the opportunity to peep into the world of colorful Nepalese culture. Even to make trekking a memorable experience for the trekkers, government of Nepal has constructed some good roads and guest houses amidst the hills.
